The Melbourne Cup

The 2014 Melbourne Cup will be run on the 4th November (as usual the first Tuesday in November).

The Melbourne Cup started in the 1860's following a request to the Victorian Turf Club to stage an event which would rival any event put on by the Victorian Jockey Club. It is now one of the world's most watched horse racing events and attracts one of the largest crowds of any non-team sport and is the richest horse race in Australia.

Currently known as the Emirates Cup, the Melbourne Cup was first run in 1861. It now continues to be run on the first Tuesday of November at Flemington Racecourse.

2014 is the 154th running of the Melbourne Cup.

Below you will find a full round up of all the Melbourne Cup Winners since it's inception.

The Cox Plate

The 2014 Cox Plate Carnival will be held over 2 days (dates to be confirmed) at Moonee Valley Race Club, Victoria Australia. The Group1 Manikato Stakes will be the feature of the opening of the Cox Plate Carnival.

The Cox Plate is run between the Caulfield Cup and The Melbourne Cup on the Australian Horse Racing Calendar and is considered a race of great prestige and importance. Many believe it is the truest test of a race horse's form and ability.
