Responsible Gambling

The majority of people who enjoy the products and services offered by our link partners are those who play for entertainment and at a level in which they are comfortable with. However, Gambling Australia understands that a small number of people may now, or in the future, have difficulty setting betting limits.

What is Problem Gambling?

Problem gambling exists when there is a lack of control over how the user gambles, particularly scope and frequency of gambling.

The negative consequences of problem gambling may include:

  • The customer suffering excessive financial losses relative to his or her means;
  • Adverse personal effects on the gambler, his or her family and friends;
  • Adverse effects on employers and work performance; and
  • Other costs, which are borne by the community.

Gambling Australia attempts to share with the community the responsibility of helping problem gamblers by only promoting legitimate gambling services which offer a way for gamblers to manage and limit their gambling. We do not promote gambling sites which entice users to spend more than they can afford or services which are deemed to be illegal. In the case where a user contacts us with a negative comment about one of the services offered by our partners we investigate and take the appropriate action to limit exposure or remove these products from the site completely.

The Code of Practice for Responsible Gambling aims to achieve the following outcomes

  • Minimizing the extent of gambling related harm to individuals and the broader community;
  • Enabling customers to make informed decisions about their gambling practices;
  • Enabling people adversely affected by gambling to have access to timely and appropriate assistance and information;
  • Promoting a shared understanding between individuals, communities, the gambling industry and Government of responsible gambling practices and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities in relation to these practices;
  • Ensuring the gambling industry provides safe and supportive environments for the delivery of gambling products and services.
